It seems creativity is more about making something old sound fresh and new. I think this is most noticeable in the music industry. Artists are always talking about how they want to be thought of as original but most of them follow a trend. Also, everyone has their own “sound” (granted they are most likely just following in the footsteps of someone they really admire and who inspired them – which there is nothing wrong with doing). It’s like when an artist does a cover song; they usually want to pay homage to the original artist but they want to make sure it is their own style. I think with the covers the hardest thing for the artist to do is make the audience feel like they have never heard it before, or make it as enjoyable as the first time they heard it. I think some artists try to be more original by writing their songs but in actuality there are only so many things to write about; it’s kind of like movie plots – there are only so many so you need to make it appear fresh and new but don’t really need to be 100% original (if that’s even possible).
