I think this is a great idea. What is "originality"? Is there any true originality anymore in the modern world? What is "creativity"? I think that these are important questions to ask and to think about because art in its many forms plays a large part in the definition of our culture. I tend to share the same opinion as Girard in this matter. He's very correct. Modern society does reject imitation. It's a great paradox because for me art itself is an imitation in many ways. Is it not a representation of something else? Music representing emotion or a story, sculpture and painting and photography all imitate the world as we see it. Ah. This living paradox is simply fantastic. I think it's almost a double bind, no? We say we don't want imitation, but we imitate all the time.
