I completely agree with your thoughts on this consciousness of choosing models. I have also caught myself and others throughout this semester acting on desires simply because of other people. I have also thought about bands or movies I like and, the more I have thought about them and when I began liking them, the more I have been able to trace them back to something that pushed me into that direction initially. I guess, though, I haven't really asked myself "Well, what do I really like?" In the end, it seems that the bands, movies, etc. that I found myself liking *merely* because someone else did, I have, basically, outgrown. Although I may have been pushed by someone or something into a specific direction initially, unless I have felt a real, I guess, connection with that band or book or whatever, it hasn't stuck with me. Just because we take our cues from models, unless something resonates with us personally we will, inevitably, disregard it and move on to another model. Unless we find ourselves, in the end, unhappy and not enjoying our acquired interests, perhaps we don't really need to question how they came about.
