I guess the best part about recognizing our mimesis is that we don't have to be immature about it. We don't need to fear imitation because we know that that fear is in itself another imitation. This discussion about the positives in mimesis should help us. We do not need to desire to be unique if being a part of something is better.
And perhaps that's the answer to a paradox I've wondered about: we always want to be, at the same time, different but one of the fold. We're scared when we say we're unique, just like everybody else. It's as though we can never be satisfied with our present position. We must change either to get closer or farther from someone near us. Perhaps, one of those desires should always be considered vain.
