Mike, I don't think that America's press is censored. Different areas are biased towards right and left wing, to be sure, but the media is vehement about their expressive freedom. I also don't think that Germany is anti-American; however, from the reports given from the above threads, its media seems to be very much anti-Bush.

On the topic of the aftermath of war itself. Of course, there are always casualites. Always. It is unfortunate. I cannot fully understand nor appreciate life after a war; Europe obviously has been dealing with the reprocussions for decades. I wish I could be more empathetic with you, so my judgment would not be clouded by any ethnocentrism or nationalism. As it is, I am in agreement with you that war should be avioded peacefully, if at all possible. However, I will restate what I said previously: peace is not maintained through pacifism, but through action.

What I don't agree with, and it seems that most Christians tend to accept this attitude, is that we should turn the other cheek. To everything. I believe that many people use that portion of scripture out of context in way too many areas. The full verse is:

"But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also." Matt. 5:39

It is my understanding that the context of this verse is not to just take someone's abuse for the purpose of showing love alone, but to allow it to happen so that they will see the wrong they have done and repent because of it? Have you ever disciplined your children too harshly, and regretted it? This is what this verse it talking about. Don't repay wrong for wrong. Instead, show your faith and love, and let that work on them so they may turn from their sinful ways. This verse applies to a specific type of attack, and it is up to the discerning Christian to know how to handle it. The contextualization comes from the type of situation it applies to. This verse directly applies to small confrontations, to individuals and even small groups of people. It does not directly apply to foreign policy and things like rape and assault.

Jesus said this at the beginning of his ministry. At the end of Jesus' ministry, he said this to his disciples:

..."But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one." Luke 22:36

Notice the context of this verse. He was talking directly to his disciples, warning them of the persecution to come, and preparing them to be on guard against the world. That's quite different than turning the other cheek to everyone and anyone. Our own experiences from UBF tells us that we should stand up for the truth and for ourselves, or we would be lost in UBF forever, continually getting abused and beaten down.
