Subject: Georgia O'Keef movie

I just saw a preview of a new movie about Georgia O'Keef on the LifeTime channel. Dan's Bones in the Sky would make a great theme song, but I doubt anyone put it together. Just makes me furious how his music is overlooked. That's such a beautiful song.

For all we know, the song *might* be used in the movie, Bianca... You just never know...;-)

I saw the previews for this movie, too. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I wonder if there will be any scenes in her later years with her nurse, i.e., Anastasia?

When did the preview say this O'Keeffe movie is going to be broadcast?

I didn't catch a date, only saw it once. I looked it up online, looks like it has been in the works a long time.
The link.

Thanks to Bianca and Alvin for the info. Sounds like it could be an interesting movie. I'm not too familiar with the work of either the director or screenwriter. But yeah, "Bones in the Sky" would be a beautiful soundtrack for the ending. On the other hand though, if the movie turns out to be not so good, we might be glad "Bones" is not associated with it :) Guess we'll just have to watch to find out.

Some time ago I came across a few segments of a 1977 documentary on O'Keeffe that I thought were pretty interesting. I can't find them now, but this youtube video shows part of it. The video quality is not as good, but it's better than nothing. It's Georgia in her element, and in her own words.

When I'm driving through Santa Fe to Colorado I pass Georgia O'Keeffe's house. I can never get Bones in the Sky out of mind...it is so fitting. And I wouldn't be surprised if she can still hear...she was an amazing woman, and Dan's song is a wonderful tribute. It's always been one of my favorites.

Where IS her house, Terra? When I was in Santa Fe two years ago, I didn't think to try to find it (drat!).

I think she also had a house in Santa Fe, but the one that I always see is in Abiquiu, north of Santa Fe and Espanola. Abiquiu is very small, but as you're driving along you can see her house sitting up on a bluff on the west side of the highway. I'm told that there are occasional tours, and I'd love to see it up close but never have...maybe one of these days. If you're ever in that area just ask one of the locals, they'll point it out to you (that's how I finally found out which one it was). I found a photo on someone's blog...it looks like it was shot from the road. It's not great, but you can tell that it's close to the highway

Hey, Terra, thanks for the info and the link!

Like you, maybe one of these days I'll get back out there and have a chance to see it.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

Terra,

Thanks for sharing the blog link! That guy has fantastic photos! There must be hundreds and hundreds......beautiful close-ups of all kinds of birds, many I've never seen before or even heard of. Love the shots of the big birds in flight - eagles, hawks, ravens, and others - plus the other wildlife and gorgeous landscapes. I spent close to an hour at his site and haven't seen it all yet. I see he also has a separate birding site where he's labeled and categorized all the birds he's photographed, which is very cool and a handy site to refer to.

So thanks again. I had a great time at that blog.

Hi all, I just recently found you and so glad I did!
I really liked this movie.... especially liked the moment when Georgia held the "bones to the sky"!

Welcome Laura! Glad that you are here!

I agree with you on that particular scene...it sparked thoughts of Dan and before long, I was singing (in my head!)

It has also sparked my interest to visit Santa Fe and other areas of New Mexico...one of the few regions of the USA that we have not visited.

Hi Diney, I'd also love to visit New Mexico! I've been to Arizona a few times and really liked the southwest... so beautiful! While reading prior posts here I think I read that you're from Illinois, Peoria area? I'm about 35 miles south-west of Chicago... we're practically neighbors!

Hi Laura, glad you found the board. I didn't see the movie, but it sounds like the scene you and Diney mentioned would have been the perfect place for Dan's "Bones in the Sky".

I actually forgot about watching the movie, but I also had gotten an impression from the promo clip that it might be overly dramatic on her relationship with Stieglitz. I know you both said you enjoyed it, so maybe if they run it again I'll try to catch it.

I was watching an episode of the new Ken Burns documentary last night about our National Parks, and was thinking it would have been a great vehicle for Dan to be a part of. There's music throughout most of it - both traditional and original compostions - and quite a few composers/musicians involved. The music score was done well, but I couldn't help thinking that Dan could've written some great pieces for a project like that. It's really an interesting film and the scenery is awesome....the last of our wild places. Here's a link to it on the PBS site if anyone's interested: http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks/
