One last candle to keep out the night...

Elaini woke with a start, dreanched in cold sweat. Shivering horribly, Elaini recounted the nightmare she'd had. It was one she'd had many times now, the one where W'ntyr won the flight, and had told her he didn't care what happened to her, as he had Wessae. In the dreams, he also took the twins from her, telling her Wessae would make a better mother.

For a moment, Elaini thought that must've been why she woke up. However, in mere seconds, she found it was wrong.

"Elaini? Are you in there?"

It was W'ntyr.

And then the darkness surrounds me...

Elaini would know that voice anywhere. She'd heard it in her mind, in her dreams. And now, when she hadn't really heard it for months...?

For a moment, Elaini was silent. What could she say? This was the man she loved, the one she'd do anything, anything, to hold in her arms again. But... she'd betrayed him.

She somberly entertained the idea of just ignoring the calls, and pretending the weyr was epmty like it had been before she'd found it a few hours ago. But, despite herself, she heard her own voice, shaking as if through an earthquake.

"W...W'ntyr?"

I know I'm alive...

She didn't know what to do. She took a look around, and saw to it that the kids were asleep. Then, she walked over to the door of the weyr.

It was amazing how time seemed to stop with her hand on the door. She was aware of every nervous heartbeak, every shaking breath. She was aware of the tears in her eyes and face and the sweat that still clung to her shaking body. She was aware she was a mess without W'ntyr in her life.

Without a plan, she opened the door.

When her eyes found his sight, she could no longer hold it in. She started to cry.

"W'ntyr..." she said softly, as if she couldn't believe it really was him. He was thinner than she remembered, but then, Elaini probably was too, in all but her enlarged womb. She hadn't eaten much since the flight. Perhaps a bread, a meatroll. More than once she thought she and the baby would die from lack of nourishment.

Before she knew what she was doing, Elaini ran the few feet between them and threw her arms around him, crying hard now. Her mind all but expected him to throw her off, possibly even slap or hit her. She'd deserve it... she really would...

But I feel like I died...
