Maria sat down hard on S'peer's bed- right next to him, in fact. She put one hand over her eyes, and one over her mouth. She couldn't believe it. S'peer had done it. Truly had. And this was what was running through her mind.

Maria, no, Maria, GET OUT OF THERE!

Maria couldn't talk as Salzay came in, talked, and went out. When the door closed behing the four Turn-old girl, she turned towards S'peer.
"Are you telling me the truth?"
Myth screamed, What are you doing? Get OUT of there!!
Maria shut him out. She desperately wanted to believe in S'peer, believe that he wasn't a monster like K'mir.

Another tear slipped down Maria's pale features as she stared at S'peer's shoulder.
"I want to believe in you," she said. "I need to believe."
