Subject: Yoga/Yoga-Pilates

I have tried first a mix of Yoga with Pilates, and then just Yoga.

I just can't calm down enough to make such slow movements and not strain. I tried - I just can't calm down! It is not in my nature to sit still very long without something going on or some sort of stimulation. And forcing myself to try made me very sore - especially my neck/back. I'm just wound too tightly.

Can you do Yoga? How do you stay so calm? Are you just a calm person?

When you start a new excercise, you may become a little sore in some areas of your body. Yoga and Pilates is all about stretching, so eventually you may become more loosened up. It may also be a sign that you are not doing it properly.
Are you doing it on your own with a dvd or with an instructor? I think and instructor helps you get into the proper positions.

If this doesn't feel right for you, stop doing it, but give it more of a try.

A few years (and a few pounds) ago I used to do yoga for about 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week . I really enjoyed it, but I can sympathize with your frustrations with being "calm" through some of the more difficult positions. It did get easier the longer I was doing it, but it never really got easy.

For me, I got the most out of the exercises when I was more focused on the breathing than the positions. It was almost like the positions took care of themselves if I stayed focused on my breathing.

Something to try, anyway.

It's the same reasoning I use for not smoking pot. I'm just wound too tightly. I get irritated.

I think I'll stick with my new eliptical machine until I get to where I want to be, then I'll throw in the variety I think is so important - maybe including yoga.

TG - it was from 2 seperate DVDs. I'm sure it was a little of doing it wrong packed with thinking "Jesus Crimany are we done yet?" I did the Billy Blanks thing back in the day - and you held the positions too - but it was more active.

I'm just kinda disappointed that I can't just chill. And I am not graceful! LOL!
