When you start a new excercise, you may become a little sore in some areas of your body. Yoga and Pilates is all about stretching, so eventually you may become more loosened up. It may also be a sign that you are not doing it properly.
Are you doing it on your own with a dvd or with an instructor? I think and instructor helps you get into the proper positions.

If this doesn't feel right for you, stop doing it, but give it more of a try.

A few years (and a few pounds) ago I used to do yoga for about 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week . I really enjoyed it, but I can sympathize with your frustrations with being "calm" through some of the more difficult positions. It did get easier the longer I was doing it, but it never really got easy.

For me, I got the most out of the exercises when I was more focused on the breathing than the positions. It was almost like the positions took care of themselves if I stayed focused on my breathing.

Something to try, anyway.
