lots to reply to in this thread...

iym - i don't think you're wrong for preferring a certain body style, everyone has their preferences. i was offended because of how i was feeling at the time, not you at all.

chrys mentioned that maybe tall, skinny chicks aren't used to comments like that. Not in my experiences from childhood to this day. I was always called skinny, totem pole, etc. I wouldn't go as far to say I was tortured for my weight (or lack of it) but it was definitely an issue. Not to mention the anorexic comments, or "you need to eat", "if you turned sideways you'd disappear"...
There's also the athletic aspect (again lack of talent there), and once development set in for everyone else, I retained my boyish figure literally. I remember desperately wishing to be normal weight.

Now I'm happy with my body, but I still get comments rather frequently. I'd like to think the women who say them are mostly jealous, but its annoying nonetheless. People think I shouldn't be excercising just because I'm thin. Just the other day at the bus stop, my neighbor calls out "hey skinny minny". It gets tiring.

I don't think anyone is immune from body issues and people will find something in everyone to pick on.

tg - that rikers island comment isn't insulting at all. I have a thing for prisoners!!

also have a thing for prisoners!

yes, leo, i know what you mean. i remember growing up always getting called chicken legs by my aunts and uncles. and also i remember in teenage years especially, getting teased for being skinny, only by girls. even a couple years back when i worked at camp, there was this girl sarah who was on my case every day, it wouldn't matter if we were out at the bar or sitting around in the house, she'd be like you need to eat, you need to eat, you need to eat. it wouldn't matter if we'd just all wolfed down some huge meal at the dining hall. it does get annoying, BUT i think it is still different to be teased for having a desirable body type than it is to be teased for one that is not so socially acceptable. i really don't think these experiences compare to really being ostracized for looks.

not that they don't count, just that it's different.

that girl who lives downstairs, who seems to be over her total hatred of me and no longer wants to stuff qtips up my nose while i'm sleeping, still makes daily comments about my weight. she also says skinny minny all the time, or "you skinny little bitch," or other lovely comments. this one night, actually the night everything started with me and AJ, there was this huge party here and this dude kelly (who was drunk and singing songs about roosters and LSD) had a friend on the phone and at one point he gave the phone to me to talk to his friend. well this chick FLIPPED out and started yelling, "you're only giving her the phone cuz she's skinny and cute! you won't give me the phone cuz i'm too fat!" i didn't know what to do, so i asked teh guy how old he was and told him he was too old for me and would he like to talk to my friend, and they were on the phone for hours. it's just strange situations, you know? i sit there and be like, fuck, i can't do anything about it, you know? but every day i see her, she has to say something.

and iymlad - re: gimp - ah, fuck off! : )
