There was a dutiful nod as he bid her stay a day or two, and hidden within the cowl was a smile as he gave her "dabbling" free reign. Yet as his hand came up to stop her before she ever uttered a word, she had to laugh. It was Crickets laugh, full and rich and hearty, and accompanied the movement of the youthful hand as she set her own goblet down. As he polished off his rum however, and moved toward the door, that full laughter became the dry cackle of the old crone, so that when the door was opened, and Angus was given orders to see to the guest, Angus saw no more than the old crone, cackling with glee, as if she had shared a joke with the old governor, both arthritic old hands clamped upon the head of her cane. She continued to cackle, until the dry sound broke into a wheezy cough and bent her further over the straight black staff. Was it enough to concern the astute Angus? The old crone could be dieing right there, spittle was certainly flying from the depths of the hood. Ah she so did like this costume..it drew tells like charms drew lovers.
