Like Phil I have also been, and still am, a regular attendee at the professional theatres in our region (although not in a professional capacity myself) and have seen many professional productions in recent years. More relevantly, two of the plays in this season's BLT schedule, "Ladies Day" and "Dead Funny", are shows that I have seen produced professionally in recent years (both at the WY Playhouse) and in both cases BLT's productions compared very favourably with their professional counterparts. The quality of the acting, pace of direction were at least equal whilst the BLT sets were somewhat superior. And although our recent production of "Death of a Salesman" was not wholly to my taste, who could deny that Julian Freeman's performance was worthy of any professional stage in the land. And if our productions are a little self-indulgent, well maybe that stems from the fact that the people involved are motivated by a genuine enthusiasm for the drama - why else would they work so hard for no pay.
