I disagree about replanting gives a forest a 10 yr head start. You're usually planting an arrea with a genetically similar stock of trees which is a far cry from a naturally seeded area. The alders fix nitrogen in the soil giving a nice supply of food to the following conifer forest. I agree thaa many of the hemlocks should be thinned out (not all) and indeed much of the natuarally seeded forest should be thinned.
Martha is a real-estate agent and so it's her job to sell real-estate (someone's got to do it !) Hey ! There's a perfect world ( which isn't gonna happen) and there's reality. I still don't support rampant clearcutting or the introduction of new industries just so some people can get a job.
