Subject: As much as I would like to agree with you I am afraid your statement is just not accurate. The ratings plummeted last year and this year they were down again over a staggering 25%. To appeal to America and keep the system on the air IMG understands it must appeal to a new extended audience. I don't think anyone has to have a story but I don't think there is anything with showing a moral ethical background.

In reply to: Leave it alone. - Also a marketing girl 's message, "It was on every network and shared thousands of times because the pageant is already so popular, that everyone is interested in the news. The current popularity of the pageant has nothing to do with anything these IMG geniuses are doing. In fact, I'm seeing that the changes are turning people off. I wonder if our teens are going to have to have a "story of meaning and purpose beyond pageants"? Puuuleeeze, this all kinda makes me wanna barf." on 06/30/16 11:27:10am

[> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: ^^^^^ above comment has no relevance because this year the show was broadcast on one of the largest networks around and was still down. They haven't had a really good year since 2011.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: They've always had a purpose, that what their volunteerism, platform and charity work was. IMG is now placing additional pressure by making them feel their regular charity endeavors are not enough. Now you'll have to have a story like the current Miss USA. You'll have to have a powerhouse career, advanced degrees, extensive charity work and look like a supermodel. The purpose/platform they had before IMG was enough. The changes IMG is making will do nothing for the ratings. No additional people will tune in to see teens in activewear and young ladies save the world. People tune in for light entertainment along with beauty and glitz. It was fine the way it was.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: Playing devil's advocate here - don't you think that's partially the problem? That it was "enough" for the pageant to be only about beauty and glitz? Like that we think its okay to only expect that from our young adults/college aged students? In this age where men are living with their parents until their 30's and women are becoming famous on instagram for literally no reason, I think its a good thing to expect more from them - MOST of these girls have amazing stories to tell, but they've forgotten how to tell them in this age of social media fame and looks being all that is required.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: I think people are making a lot of assumptions and being really over dramatic. I am sure platforms still work but the point is a lot of ladies in the USA do not have any kind of platform and the only community service they do is the appearances the systems makes them attend. I see nothing wrong with having a greater purpose outside of pageantry. You are a representing the country or your state when you win one of these titles. Why would they not want someone with an interesting background
