This photo was published on 25th July, the day of the final night. Miss Canada, Cindy Conroy represents her country in the Miss Universe 1958 contest at Long Beach, California, she is 21 years old, of Toronto. She was born in Dublin, Ireland.

The Miss Universe competition begins tonight, when the 35 contestants will be cut down to 15 semifinalists. Miss Universe will be selected Friday night.

Miss Greece, Marily Callimopoulou, is the candidate who would represent 100 percent the beauty of the Brazilian brunette: with her matte skin and black hair, she is truly beautiful and has the same measurements as Marta Rocha who represented Brazil in Miss Universe 1954 and was the first runner-up.

Congratulations to Miss Indonesia Harashta Haifa Zahra for winning Miss Supranational 2024. We are so proud that she has won the 1st ever crown for her country. Indonesia has won a total of 3 crowns in 3 of the 6 most important beauty pageants of the planet (Miss International 2017, Miss Supranational 2024 and Miss Grand Supranational 2016).

She marked on a television interview that she would like to meet Gregory Peck. The dream came true at United Artists studio in Hollywood when Peck tokk time off from his acting chores in his new picture “pork Chop Hill” to meet Miss Sweden. The movie is a story of the fighting during the Korean conflict.

Miss Denmark, Evy Norlund (evidently descended from the Vikings judging by the last name); receives some instructions from a real Western cowboy, Hugh O'Brian, on how to get up early with a cob gun, the kind that made Pancho Villa famous. O'Brian acts in cowboy movies. She is, as seen in the photo, one of the competitors for the title of Miss Universe 1958, precisely the one sent by Denmark. The contestants were visiting the Hollywood studios.

Pretty Miss Denmark, Evy Norlund; in the current Miss Universe beauty pageant at Long Beach, California, is a willing pupil of actor Hugh O’Brian in his demonstration of the proper stance with a Wild West “shooting iron.” It all took place during the visit of Miss Universe 1958 contestants at the 20th Century-Fox studios in Hollywood. Competition in the contest began Tuesday night and Miss Universe will be named tomorrow night.

Miss Costa Rica, Eugenia Valverde, was disqualified because one of the rules of the contest specifies that candidates must have been born on July 19th, 1940 or before. All this was due to what happened last year with the current Miss Universe, Miss Peru Gladys Zender, who was 17 years and 7 months old at that time. Oscar Meinhardt, director of the Miss Universe pageant, said: “I blame the sponsors in Costa Rica entirely” because they did not demand any age-related requirements. “She, because of her honesty, is a credit to her country.” She will be able to participate in all activities as an honored guest, but not in the preliminaries.

Miss Costa Rica is 17 years old and did not know about the minimum age of 18. She will not turn 18 until next October.

David Schine, 30, one of the most publicised Private in the Army, obtained a licence yesterday to marry Miss Universe 1955, Miss Sweden, Hillevi Rombin. She is 24 years old, living in New York in hopes of trying her luck in moving pictures. She was offered a part in “The Benny Goodman Story” immediately after her beauty contest triumph.

Mr. Schine now is back in civilian life. He has been president and general manager of the Schine hotel chain since 1950.

Close to tears, Leona Gage, disqualified as Miss U.S.A. (right) in Miss Universe 1957 because she was married and she had two sons, kisses successor, Miss Utah, Charlotte Sheffield (left), but she was ruled ineligible to compete in the final night because she wasn’t in the preliminaries.

Charlotte Sheffield participated as Miss U.S.A. in Miss World 1957, but she didn't qualify.

She is a statuesque blond who makes her living by taking care of people’s feet, gave some special attention to her own today. The 18-year-old, a pedicurist by profession, was the tallest and heaviest of the 23 girls in the competition. She stands 5 feet 7 ¾ inches, weighs 136 ¼ pounds and is contoured 37-22¾-37. She was rewarded with a sports car and 500 pounds ($1,400).
The rest of the finalists are Miss Denmark, Lillian Madsen (2nd); Miss South Africa, Adele Kruger (3rd); Miss Tunisia, Jacqueline Tapia (4th); Miss Japan, Muneko Yorifuji (5th); Miss France, Claude Inès Navarro (6th) and Miss Israel, Sara Elimor (7th).
