1) What does the sequoia symbolize?

2) Do you feel that Casey, in building a home some distance away from the city, is trying to avoid temptation? Or is he just trying to provide his wife with proper shelter?

3) Casey is so connected to the earth. Why does it anchor him and bring him joy?


Chapter 26 - The Boy

1) Why does it seem to be human nature to offer food to someone who appears agitated or anxious? Do you do this, too? Why?

2) Your impression of Flip, please.


Chapter 27 - When the Evening Falls

1) Who is your closest friend and why? Are there any special memories the two of you share? Would you care to share any memories with us?

2) Do you suspect Robin's parents were involved in Jo's disappearance? Why or why not?

3) Does this chapter soften you toward Robin? Why or why not? Did you believe him when he apologized to Casey?
