1. Many different cultural factors influenced either people's liking or disliking of swing. Conservatives commentators decried swing as, "as an outgrowth and intensification of the moral decline marked but ragtime and jazz crazes of the 1910's and 20's." Religious authorities were not thrilled with the new musical craze, in 1938 Arch Bishop Beckam stated, "we permit, if not endorse, by our criminal indifferences, 'jam sessions', 'jitterbugs', and cannibalistic rhythm orgies to occupy a place in our social scheme of things, wooing our youth along the primrose path to hell!" With many of these different public figure opinions breaking through, the true opinions of the public really began to show. Swing brought on a new and more casual trend among the culture that many were not ready to except.
2. Attacks like this I don't believe were completely racially motivated. I believe these attacks were based off of the way white girls were dressing, dancing, and behaving. If it were to be racially directed towards black people, then it would've been more evident.
3. Music can definitely bring out classy sides of people and trashing sides of people. For example when you are going to a Jazz concert, would you dress in a jean mini skirt and heals?......NO. You would dress more conservative. If you were to be going to a hip hop concert, or a club, would you dress in a turtle neck and jeans?? Probably not. If you're going out and dancing and listening to hip hop music, people tend to dress a little bit more provocatively. So I do believe that like swing music, different types of music can bring out different either more conservative attitudes, or more "free" spirit type attitudes.
4. I strongly believe that no type of music is firmly created to be immoral. I do believe that certain genres of music have more of a reputation of being immoral due to the content of their lyrics and overall image that they are casting out to the youth. Hip hop is the genre of music that i believe to be most controversial due to its references to sex, drugs, and crime.
5. Like stated in the paragraph above, I believe the genre that has recieved the most critism has been Hip Hop. The lyrics contain many references that are regarded as culturally "unexceptable" by the American people.
