Thanks for even more interesting information. What you tell shows a better reason to do the surgery.

Still it looks like the reason for the extent of the surgery has not been revealed. The article tells only about removing the pancreas.

So there is something the surgion does not tell you. Possibly he does not reemember himselff and it is not noted in the journals.
