Hmmmmm... Very interesting! I'd never considered that, but it's obvious that pubertal status and level of maturity would be related to bone--and jaw--development! Tanner stage would almost certainly be factored into this as well. 14 it seems to me, is on the cusp. A 14 year old boy could be rather mature, or a late bloomer. The growth spurt at puberty can be either behind or ahead of a 14 year old boy. So there can be a lot of variation in boys at 14, and it seems probable that the orthodontist would want to know as nearly as possible, exactly what he was dealing with and if the growth spurt at puberty was likely ahead or behind the patient, among other things. Now I see your logic and it makes a lot of sense!


I'm naturally skeptical, at least to a point, and I suppose I've been looking for a "gotcha" to try and shoot down some of your conclusions, but this case, at least, wasn't it!

Certainly food for thought. and I need to assume a less confrontational tone in the future.
