It can be really tough when you have a young child to try and explain the anatomy, so ill try and make it simple to try and help. I have danced for 10 years and am getting a degree in sports science. Try to think about the hip, thigh, knee, shin, and ankle as one long connected string. If the hip is sore, this will likely travel to the lower leg, it's also the case with turnout. If your daughter is turning out from their ankles, it will likely cause your daughter significant pain in her lower knee. I suggest going onto YouTube and watching some hip turnout exercises and getting your daughter to do them while warming up.
Also please remember that the process of getting a good turnout isn't an instantaneous thing and will take a couple of weeks of repetition before improvement will be evident.

I hope that helps!
