Subject: In our area, the existing schools' unwillingness to take transfers from "their buddies" Created a few "super schools"..
In reply to: Egotistical tcrgs 's message, "Super schools have ruined ID!!" on 12/05/25 11:12:11, Mon

This was a while ago... but I lived in an area near a fairly big city, with a good number of Irish Dance schools and dancers. Many of the schools had been around for quite a while, and all the teachers knew each other. Many of the teachers were good friends... nothing wrong with that... however...They all had "pacts" with one another to not take transfers from their buddies.

While I get the sentiment behind this, it meant that if any student wasn't happy where they were, they had no choice but to transfer into one of the few other schools that would take transfers.

One of those new "super teachers" became involved in one of the local schools, and they were more than willing to accept transfers. We personally knew people that really didn't want to go to the "super school", but they weren't happy where they were, and no one else would even talk to them about transferring.

So, the school with the "super teacher" coming in grew and grew and became very dominant. The older established teachers were all in a huff about it... but I did feel they sort of created the situation themselves.

  • It’s all a game. Get your competition into your school then you don’t have to worry. Keep them from winning. (NT) -- Lisa, 13/05/25 21:13:43, Tue
