It was a lovely day, indeed. But the skies overhead held that first threatening gray of a coming rain. Spring is lovely except all the rain. But the rain helps the flowers and so it’s hard to truly despise it, especially when it smells so great. The clouds were drifting lazily into the sky, collecting, multiplying and changing shapes from bunnies to fish. But they weren’t the color of steel yet and Lyla figured she had at least until nightfall before the city was washed clean of that day’s sins.

Lyla calculated and analyzed all this data from her back. Her gold hair was spread through over the bench and meshed over her arms which were propping her head comfortably up for cloud watching. Her eyes remained open when the sun was hidden behind clouds, but closed as soon as the sun darted out. Lyla relished the sun on her face and the way her eyelids lit up. However the hot pink never lasted long and soon it faded back into the blackness she was use too. Her eyes would open again and Lyla would look around to find new animal shapes in the sky. It was on one of these occasions that Lyla opened her eyes to find someone else enjoying the weather, though.

There was a person on the opposite bench. She had moved in so quietly Lyla was surprised. She was sitting calmly as if she had nothing better to do than enjoy that straggly tree. The girl was beautiful, no doubt, but her glasses hid her eyes and that tangle of wavy hair was chopped so short Lyla had to study that the features lent themselves more to feminine than masculine. She also smelled funny. Vampire, most likely. But if Lyla looked hard enough she could see the beauty of the girl’s jaw line, the full lips, and the dark eye lashes. Maybe Lyla should say hi. Maybe Lyla should leave the vampire alone so she didn’t get eaten. “Hi, there!” Oh well.
