The watch, however, lent more proof towards androgenessness. It was a heavy rolex- a man's watch, but much too big for the wearer's slim, delicate wrist. So, perhaps, the watch was proof of nothing more than the wearer's femininity. London shook her hair out of her face and smiled at a passing car, waving cheerily. It was nice to be back in a familiar city. It wasn't London, of course. London loved London. It was a comfortable place for her to be, but, hell, at least Cascade City wasn't Vegas or Alexandria- beautiful places, in their own ways, but not home. Not here. Not English-speaking, warm-blooded, powerful and brilliant centres of life like this (admittedly abysmal) mecca was. But there was something about her playing field that seemed much more different than usual. There was a smell in the air that was all too familiar, all too fantastic and all too lovely. It was a scent she would have preferred to forget, but one she would never cease to recognize in just a few seconds. The smell of life, the smell of greenery, the smell of everything in the full bloom of excitement. Reminded her of Paris. Or maybe Rome. Or, well, maybe, Athens. London straightened, eyes wide behind her eyeglasses. Athens? Why did she think of Athens? She hadn't been back to Greece since... well... since forever ago. Maybe it was the gyro shop. Or the tea. Or the watch. Heh. London sank down onto a stone bench beside a tree that had been planted to "beautify" the city and pulled the lid off of her tea, settling back to watch the people move past her. |
