(ooc: omg the song "Amaranth" by Nightwish is epic. O_O)

"Sorry, I guess that was a little bit forward. My apologies."

"What? Nonono, it's not that. I was being retarded again." he said, paused, and figured he should probably elaborate. "It's irritating when there's only a little bit of coffee left and then it just like sits there, you know? And then it gets cold and you can't do anything with it." That sounded really stupid now that he'd said it out loud.

A nagging voice at the back of his head kept reminding him that he ought to probably start thinking of heading back to his apartment. But then again, did he really want to? It was incredibly small and crowded and littered with cardboard boxes, and he'd accidentally knocked out a window pane on his first day moving in so it got so cold at night he could just as well have lived in a storage freezer. In the meanwhile he'd nailed an old white t-shirt over the space where the glass used to be, but it didn't really help much with anything. The landlord was probably going to have a fit if he saw the place. Plus his rent was late... maybe he'd get himself run over by a bus or whatever so he could spend the night in hospital or something. It was probably a hell of a lot warmer and neater there and he wouldn't bump into anyone he'd been avoiding.

No, that'd just be insane. Max glanced around the cafe again. One of the two couples had gotten up and left in the mean time, it seemed- their table was empty and had already been cleaned. The old man in the corner seemed to have dozed off, a waitress would probably wake him up soon enough, the other couple looked like they were waiting for the bill, and then, a bit to Max's surprise, the trio were still sitting at their table, still looking furious and chattering amongst themselves. A car with a rather noisy engine interrupted Max's train on thoughts as it came careering past the cafe, and he turned apologetically back to Midori. "Heh, sorry, I'm not very interesting conversation at the moment."
