Subject: Shots during Teen Years Author: Tim [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: Sunday, April 25, 2021, 02:53: am How many people remember going to the doctor or hospital during their teenage years and suddenly learning you were getting a penicillin shot? Also remember going back home and your butt hurting like crazy in the car and days afterwards? I was in a drug program and I got sick. I was allowed to go to the hospital with a program resident with me. He had to stay by side the entire time. This was the procedure to avoid anyone from stealing drugs at the hospital. He was about 18. I was 17. This was the 1970's. After I was examined and we both waited, a nurse comes in with a huge needle! I was 17 at the time and since I had another person with me so I had to hide my fear and roll over and pull my pants down. My heart fell to the floor. The nurse came over and rubs the alcohol and then an UNBELIEVABLE pain! I felt that entire needle go in which I thought was bad enough but then the medicine killed me totally. Eventually I did scream begging her to stop. It was embarrassing since I had someone with me from the program watching. Even when the nurse pulled it out I screamed! The person with me didn't say anything about it (thank God) but I remember my butt killing me the entire trip back to the program and a few days afterwards. NEVER AGAIN..... If I wasn't accompanied by a resident from the program I probably would have refused the shot. But I couldn't do that in front of him. Has anyone else had a similar experience where the last thought on their mind would be a Penicillin shot either at the doctor or a hospital? But at the time of getting the shots really didn’t care the pain I was experiencing was greater than the pain of the shots . Embarrassment of it all was a lesson learned for me. One was in high school - after a cafeteria worker came down with hepatitis many kids, including me, had to get shots. In the crowded infirmary they called in three at a time, either all males or all females. There we learned that the shots would be given in the butt, and each of us had to drop our pants and bend over for what seemed like 10 minutes. Huge, painful shots, and I was embarrassed to be wiping away tears in front of the other two guys. But lots of other kids, even some of the older ones, reacted the same way. Other experience was in the ER after a friend had an accident. There wasn't a lot of privacy, and while walking around I saw a guy, probably 19 or 20, get a shot in his ass. Another guy was in there with him and didn't know a passerby could see. He groaned loudly during the injection, and I know it was penicillin from the nurse's comment afterward that penicillin can really sting. Looked like it. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]
