Subject: Injections in lower buttocks

When I was a child, in the 1970's, the doctor gave me some injections in the lower part of my buttocks; at least I seem to remember them there. I can recall one instance in which I had a terrible time seating on a hard plastic seat on the bus afterward and the road was quite bumpy; it hurt so badly that I cried on the bus-ride. I have read a lot on the subject and it seems to be a real no-no to give injections there mainly due to possible sciatic nerve irritation. Has anyone here had injections in the lower part of their bottoms which, although painful, did not hurt your sciatic nerve?

Whilst deep intramuscular injections must be given in the upper outside quadrant of the buttock to avoid the sciatic nerve, smaller injections can safely be given lower (albeit still in the outer half). I insist on all injection in my bottom and those that can go in the arm are often given relatively low in my buttocks at my request because they seem to hurt less when given there even though later tenderness can make it difficult to sit on the site.

When I was a kid (6 or 7?), I remember having a treatment at home. I could not say which disease but every time I had two injections. The first in a buttock, in the upper part, the second in the other buttock, in the lower part. I have the impression that the injection in the lower part was performed with a small needle. But my memories are blurred.
