Subject: How long have you had your exams?
In reply to: Jealousy can be a terrible thing. Unqualified equals ex dancer thats it. Ego's must be hurt 's message, "Poor you. God help that a teacher actually took the time to take their exams" on 23:30:51 12/18/25 Thu

There is nothing for me to be jealous over. I took my exams. I got great results.

I have been at this a long time. As in seven gates, knee high socks, I remember when buckets started as a trend long. I remember learning that both legs in a click should be the same height.

I did all my exams because 1) I know I am good at exams and 2) it met my goals for myself.

But I also have come to recognize the exams are only worthwhile if they meet your goals and the memorization element is incredibly intimidating for people. They are expensive, especially if you don't live somewhere where they happen often. And they are doubly hard if you don't have good guidance in preparing for you.

Exams don't make good teachers. The exams don't make you qualified to teach Irish dance. They are just a stamp from an organization that says "We vouch for this person." If you want to be truly open platform and you have no interest in judging, there is no reason to take the exams other than ego.

I've met horrible teachers with certification and amazing teachers without. It isn't black and white.
