How about a little trivia to take our minds off all the drama … if that is possible.

First up:

Which Miss America was the first to express that she did not want to wear the crown often throughout her year?

Additional MAO trivia----it was 40 years ago last night (on Saturday, September 15, 1984) when Miss Utah, Sharlene Wells was named Miss America 1985. Of course it was during this pageant in 1984 when then-Penthouse magazine publisher Robert (Bob) Guccione (who died at 79 in October 20, 2010) said he had nude or suggestive photos of one of the 51 competing contestants in Atlantic City. Turned out, the judges selected a Paraguayan harp-playing angel from Mormon-majority Utah as Miss America. Meanwhile, Minnesota's Lauren Susan Green went from being a piano player to yapping about Donald Trump every day on Fox News some 30 years later. Barely see Lauren any more on tv. And tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 17th) is the 41st anniversaryof when Miss New York, Vanessa Williams won Miss America 1984 on September 17, 1983.

The answer to the original question is Leanza Cornett. She did not want to wear her crown. She wanted Miss America to be taken seriously. A few years later Kate Shindle followed suit. (NT)No name
