In reply to: 's message, "https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/wireStory/new-york-woman-challenging-miss-america-miss-world-113740107" on 15:20:44 09/17/24 Tue

What a stupid argument they make - the plaintiff is upset because "she’s always dreamed of entering the competitions but was devastated to learn that she’s no longer eligible because she had a son when she was just 19 years old." OK, well, that was a choice she made. There are plenty of other pageants she can enter.

“As we stated in Danielle‘s filed complaint, this exclusion is degrading to Danielle as it is based upon the antiquated stereotype that women cannot be both a mother and be beautiful, poised, passionate, talented and philanthropic,” Allred said. Um...yes we can. Having a crown and title has nothing to do with that.

This has nothing to do with the rules being antiquated, it has to do with the reality that being a mother and being available to your children and making them a priority (as you should) conflicts with the schedule and travel required of a Miss America (especially a popular one). And being available to be a good Miss America would mean putting your kids in the background while you travel and make appearances.

I'm so sick of people making choices and then demanding that everyone else change to accommodate their demands.

I hope the MAO prevails and doesn’t cave. The MUO has become nothing but a joke. I read that this year at Miss Universe there’s going to be 30 semifinalists because of the number of expected delegates. They are literally letting anyone compete from anywhere. And at the end of the day, some single childless 20 something from Latin America or Asia will win. Being this inclusive is going to kill that org. There’s enough systems out there this woman can compete in. (NT)No name
