I am not a Volunteer fan, and here’s why. As you know, Allison was the director of Tennessee MAO for many years. It’s widely known that she prefers the platinum blondes as titleholders but is tolerant of the brunettes. Girls of other races have a very hard time in her pageants. She has never crowned a Miss winner that is African American, either at Tennessee or at the national Volunteer level. If you take a look at the Q and A for last year’s Volunteer, it was the most robotic thing I had ever seen. I felt the Top 5 were all processed pageant patties and their answers to the questions were so programmed and rehearsed. Allison highlights the parts of Miss America that I always cringed at and wanted a “real” and relatable girls. -- Guru Message Board

Her 2024 Tennessee titleholder was Black and made Top 10 at nationals. Other states are also crowning women of color and women of larger sizes (new Alaska queen). I see much more diversity in Volunteer than MAO, but that's just based off my MAO state perspective. I haven't been involved at the National level for MAO in a long time. Well none of the last 4 TN Volunteer girls have been blonde, so I don't understand why everyone thinks Allison rigs her pageants for blondes or white girls. Even at nationals the top 10 has been different all 3 years, and we've had extremely different national titleholders all 3 years, even if 2 happen to be blonde. Because that crap will fly when you and your mom are running Miss TN but it won’t when you’re running a national. She’s smart enough to know that. The first MVA pagent I watched had a black teen winner and a burnett Miss winner? I can't remember the year. But also have seen another Miss winner that was black or a (woman of color) can't recall that year, I also believe last years Miss was Black. I disagree slightly on the Top 5. While a majority were plastic, NY and PA were very authentic IMO. NY was the opposite of programmed when watching it, especially in her onstage question. The unfortunate reality is the real and relatable girls like NY and PA get pushed under the rug by the games and handpicking of titleholders at a national level at Vol. (NT) No name
