Its simply unfair to the 1st runner up because when they are called, everyone goes nuts for the winner and really doesnt applaued the 1st runner up I like the days when Miss America went away from the last two back in 2015 when Betty Cantrell won. Then again it was kinda tacky to have the other two standing there and they didnt make the top 5... Just sayin

I completely disagree, as I would much rather be one of the last two standing and enjoy THAT moment, than to be called out as First Loser and receive some "pity" applause for that. I feel that it would be exceptionally exciting to await the announcement and the 50/50 chance that I might win IJS (NT)No name

I liked it when all the runners up and Miss America were simply called from the top ten. With that sytem, you'd think that the winner would be obvious, but she often was not. Example: Vanessa Williams was obvious, bit Marjorie Vincent was not. (NT)Ima (Jean) Starall-Reddy

Totally disagree with this. When there were three left, as in the year that Betty won, it was pretty obvious that Betty had won because the other top guns had already been called out as the runners-up. When you get down to a top two, most often either of these contestants would be worthy of the title. I remember one year in our state, the final two was a contestant who had competed six times at state (who I knew would make a great Miss State) and her 1st runner-up who was drop-dead gorgeous with personality plus. It was a win either way, but I distinctly remember what a nail-biting moment it was waiting for the final results. This is what makes for a memorable pageant. (NT)No name

One of my favorite memories is when Miss New York had won the previous year and the year before. I thought Kira would be the 1st runner up. Then the male announcer declared it was a threepeat! (NT)They all did it practically on their own it seemed to me.

If pageants are going to continue going forth with the final two, then call the first runner-up and then the titleholder. Going from second runner-up to the titleholder doesn’t provide much respect to the first runner-up. Sadly, it’s an after thought. This was especially true with Miss USA and Universe from 2016-2020. In fact, the first runner-up during those years weren’t even mentioned after the titleholder was called. Miss Universe still doesn’t acknowledge the first runner-up today. Miss America is no better having not announced the first runner-up since 2011 (except 2016, 2017 and 2019). (NT)No name

I disagree. I like when they start to call off the top 5 from the final 5 contestants. What I don't like is when it gets down to the final 2, the emcee says "and the winner is.....". I'd rather have then announce the 1st runner-up so she gets recognition for her achievement, and then the focus shifts to the winner. When they just jump to "the winner i....." the first runner up just fades into the background and many times her presentation of her bouquet and announcement of her name gets bypassed (NT)No name
