Subject: I liked it when all the runners up and Miss America were simply called from the top ten. With that sytem, you'd think that the winner would be obvious, but she often was not. Example: Vanessa Williams was obvious, bit Marjorie Vincent was not.

Totally disagree with this. When there were three left, as in the year that Betty won, it was pretty obvious that Betty had won because the other top guns had already been called out as the runners-up. When you get down to a top two, most often either of these contestants would be worthy of the title. I remember one year in our state, the final two was a contestant who had competed six times at state (who I knew would make a great Miss State) and her 1st runner-up who was drop-dead gorgeous with personality plus. It was a win either way, but I distinctly remember what a nail-biting moment it was waiting for the final results. This is what makes for a memorable pageant. (NT)No name
