[> [> Subject: Once nationals were pushed to May, most of the states took the opportunity to push back as well, because the farther away from Covid, the better. And more time to fundraise & recruit never hurts. The girls had to wait 2 years to compete at state, so they were already obligated to the MAO during the early Vol state pageants. The new pageant season is upon us. Now we'll see who wants to compete in Volunteer.

[> Subject: Well, so far, there are only 8 state titleholders, and 5 more states with pageant dates, which leads me to believe they're going to have to have a fair number of at-large state titleholders if they want a truly national pageant their first time out.

[> [> Subject: There are at least 4 scheduled in January. Dates are continuing to be moved back. I know this is their first year but I would be surprised if their national pageant amounts to much. It will be interesting to see where it goes in a couple of years.

[> Subject: They are giving it a good try. I think in a couple of years it might be relevant. I'm not too impressed so far. Our state pageant was a real snoozer with only 7 contestants and not much competition. I've seen way better at Miss America locals. Anxious to see how the next several years go for them. Could be good.

[> Subject: Recruiting for Volunteer has been hampered because girls were obligated to MAO state pageants this summer (after waiting 2 years to compete). That and changing Covid requirements in varying states and it's a new program that needed to get fundraising off the ground quickly (during Covid). If the MAO runs the 100th like the 99th, that's when there may be some movement over to Volunteer.
