Anyone know what’s going on with the SC volunteer group? Heard several things from former contestants and parents: one of the board members and most of their local directors resigned before the pageant or walked away afterwards, contestant yelling backstage after crowning that they were recruited and promised the title, no prize package announced, etc

[> Subject: I heard the board member and local directors that left were trying to take over the pageant and to be honest it was the best thing for the organization that they left. I was at the pageant and it was top notch all the way from production to crowing. They crowned two really strong competitors who will do great at nationals. From what I’m hearing the Miss South Carolina Volunteer Pageant is the premiere pageant for South Carolina and consists of a board that runs a fair and competitive pageant. Rumor is it will take the place of Miss SCMAO.

[> [> Subject: They’ve got a LONG way to go if they plan to even come close to what SC MAO has created. But I also thinks it’s sad to see volunteer people continuing to compare themselves to MAO and not solely focus on Volunteer rather than trying to throw MAO under the bus.

[> Subject: Competed this year. Did not know about contestants yelling after being promised titles. That said, there was clear favoritism throughout the process. Production was great from the outside but horrible as a contestant. Poor communication throughout, very disorganized, and still do not know what the prize package was. The S in S.E.R.V.E. stands for Scholarship yet we were never told, nor was it announced, what the scholarship would be. State board did not submit Sweetheart paperwork in time so no runner up has the opportunity to compete there. Very few contestants will be returning. It will not grow with the current board.

[> [> Subject: As a parent I couldn’t agree more with the disorganization and overall rude/fake attitudes of the board. We were given mixed information multiple times and they didn’t even have a venue or begin planning the pageant until they announced a change in venue to cover up the fact that the perviously advertised venue was undergoing a complete reservation and had been the entire time they were advertising. After this experience my daughter will be pursuing other avenues, wouldn't recommend.
