Madison has taken an at-large title through Miss America Colorado and will be giving up her state volunteer title immediately after nationals in June. I, as well as I’m sure many others, think this is extremely disappointing. As an organization this cannot become the standard. What happened to loyalty?

[> Subject: Yeah, I'm all for girls being able to get married or move states for work or school after Nationals, but relinquishing your title to compete in a different system entirely? MVA Colorado will lose 6 months of promotion in Colorado with no titleholder. (Kind of worse: they HAD a titleholder who quit to compete in a different system before her year as a State titleholder was up. Yikes in terms of marketing for Miss Colorado Volunteer.)

[> Subject: While this might not be a popular opinion, I don’t think there is anything wrong with this. Colorado is not a pageant state….there is no leadership for Miss Colorado Volunteer, and there is no support. For her to get an at large title in Miss Colorado America (which all the titles are at-large since they don’t have prelims), it would have to be cleared to be okay with the Miss America leadership. If they are okay with it, then it doesn’t cross any contractual lines or obligations. There’s no reason to tear down the woman.

[> [> Subject: Read the contract, it breaks both the MAO and MVA contracts. I am sure it’s fine with you because your daughter isn’t competing against her. It is absolutely unfair and cannot be the standard.

[> [> [> [> Subject: Actually, they’re making exceptions for her. The Colorado America registration deadline is weeks before MVA nationals so she’s holding both titles. Don’t talk about things you don’t know about.

[> [> [> Subject: Another way to look at this: A student can apply for multiple scholarships (compete in two pageants) at the same time -- there's no disloyalty, just someone taking advantage of every opportunity open to her. Most local titles in MAO have very few obligations other than competing at State...and the at-large titles have nil. Good for her. Good luck!

[> [> Subject: Madison sure thinks people are scared of her, she’s telling Volunteer competitors that’s she has no competition at Volunteer, and telling anyone in Colorado who will listen that she has no competition in Colorado. Sounds like the girl needs a big dose of reality.

[> Subject: Not sure why Colorado is such a hot topic! I’m sure she’ll be reprimanded if she has done something to breech a contract in either system, if this is even true. She’s probably not going to do anything notable at MVA. Who cares?

[> Subject: This has been happening for years and its nothing new. This is not the decision of the Volunteer pageant, it is up the the Miss Colorado Opportunity director to decide whether or not to accept her after she resigns from Volunteer. A resignation can occur at any time - look at the USA system. But if the MCO is willing to accept her then she is good to go. I believe she placed in the top 5 twice in MCO so maybe these upset people are concerned about her taking the title. This is a competion and anyone should have the right to compete if accepted by the person in charge. And, I'm sure MCO needs the contestants!

[> [> Subject: No judge in their right mind is going to crown a girl that held a title in a competing system 2 weeks before. Nobody is concerned about her winning, they are concerned that she is getting special treatment from the Colorado state director, and MVA is too desperate for contestants to have any integrity
