Growing up I remember an enema being given when the child had a fever.

This was a common home remedy practice by moms then.

For some reason the fever seemed to come about , or rise, late at night. So remember the bulb syringe being taken out of the closet. Water being ran. The bulb, Vaseline, towel and pan of cool (never cold) water taken to the bedroom.

My younger brother , and cousin, seemed to get a fever late at night. And given an enema on the bed.
I would over hear my mom or aunt talking to them as the enema was given.

When older I found out the mom I sat for (she was a divorced mom of two and a nurse) gave the same remedy for a fever — enemas.

Working in a health food store now, the enema is talked about, and asked about, often by moms who come into the store.

These days, at least in the natural remedy belief, — no Tylenol given — a garlic enema or cat nip tea enema is suggested for the child to be given.
