Watching the MIss Universe Pageant I think Bianca Manalo represented as very well unfortunately the preliminary judges type for this year is different..just looking at the swimsuit portion take a look at the body type that the top 15 have in common tall,balingkinitan and warm personalities especially those that manage to crack the top 5 position.I think yung type nila ay ang beauty ni Sandra Seifert.Nothing against Bianca who is equally beautiful i think its just wrong timing for her or maybe wrong set of preliminary judges.What do you guys think because i was really expecting Bianca to be there way ahead of those European countries.

Dear Miss Universe org.

Throughout the years, I have been a fan of your show and of your organization. I thank you for the many great opportunities you have afforded the delegates of countries from around the world to come together and celebrate each culture and embrace world peace. Furthermore, I am grateful for all your organization has done to promote HIV and cancer awareness and the many charitable causes you stand for.

I am growing increasingly concerned that the recent and ongoing decline of the credibility of your winners will limit and degrade the quality of your show. The most recent winner Miss Venezuela STEFANIA FERNADEZ is proof enough.

It is hard to believe that the least qualified to represent your organization wins the crown when in fact her performance in the live telecast fell short of being the most convincing and deserving. If you visit any blog, message board or internet site that specializes in pageants you will be astonished at what you will read from experts in the field. We are in total disagreement with the most recent election and consider it unfair, unjust and biased.

We will not speculate what we feel would be "special interest" in business dealings with your organization and the Miss Venezuela org. However, many of us that were in the live telecast in the Bahamas were not fooled by the botched results, the failed computer system and the inept attempt by your accounting firm to manually ad the scores, thus, a failed and inexplicable outcome.

With all due respect, we the fans and consumers that support the sponsors that pay for such debacle say "enough is enough" and unless we see a transparent and just win in the future will not only stop watching your show, we will boycott any products advertised during the transmission of your telecast.

We ask that your organization show "good faith" to our petition and provide a reasonable explanation on how your accounting methods proved Miss Venezuela to be the winner in this recent election.

Para sa akin......never na magpadala ng PILIPINAS sa Miss Universe...dahil wasting time lang kasi naman walang budget yata si Madam Araneta sa mga delegates ng PIIPINAS. Bakit niya pinapadala ang mga girls doon sa COLOMBIA? PILIPINAS maraming professional designer at marunong mag train sa mga candidata. Kaya puro kalokohan lang yata yan...ma drama ang venue niya. Just try one year na hindi magpadala sa Miss Universe....katulad ngayon big news sa KOREA na hindi na sila magpadala next year ng candidata nila. Opinion ko lang! Salamat.

I'm with you on this. We could have sent Umali, Seifert, et al et al and they would've fared no better bec they're SE Asians. It doesn't take an Einstein to see that Mori's win is just paying lip service to diversity. MU is the Prada (or Hilfiger) of beauty contests and will always be unless a proper pageant organisation takes over from Donald Trump. So forget MU. There are other pageants worthy of your loyalty. In the past 10 years, the Miss Universe pageant is being dominated by delegates from the Latin American countries. This year could be an exception because Europe and Asia/Oceana performed very well in the preliminaries. But of course, it all depends on the taste of the panel of judges and how the ladies will perform come coronation night this Sunday.

Based on the preliminary videos for the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, including the interview videos, we came up with our own picks as possible shoo-in for the Top 15.

We're guessing the crown is being contested by four countries: Australia, the Netherlands, Dominican Republic and France. USA, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Mexico may pull a surprise because of sash factor (these four countries have strong ties with the Miss Universe organization). Or it could be the year of the Black Horse which includes Czech Republic, Spain, South Africa and our very own Bianca Manalo.

I wsiehd she exerted more oomph and pizzaz in this evening won round. While she was a sure vote getter in the smisuit competition, I would think she was close to mediocre or so so in the eg round. She is KATHERINE ANNE MANALO, who is a finalist at the 2002 Miss World Pageant. She is the older sister of this year's Miss Philippines PAMELA BIANCA MANALO at Miss Universe.

Some Tagalog 101 - MANALO means WINNER in Tagalog.

We'll see come August 23rd if Pamela Bianca Manalo will at least follow the footstep of her sister and be a finalist at Miss Universe, or equal that of Miriam Quiambao who is the Philippines last finalist at Miss Universe (1st Runner-up in 1999) or be the third Filipina to be crowned Miss Universe and follow the footssteps of Gloria Diaz and Margarita Moran?

MANILA, Philippines—Homegrown and overseas bets shared top honors in Sunday night’s Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant held in Baler, Aurora. Legazpi City’s Jane Banares bagged the Mutya ng Pilipinas-International title while Northern Germany’s Jacqueline Schubert won the Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism crown.

Banares beat 33 other contestants from all over the country and Filipino communities abroad. She also bagged the Best in Evening Gown award. Schubert, meanwhile, won Best in Swimsuit and Best in Sabutan Costume.

Both ladies won P200,000 each and will represent the Philippines in the Miss Intercontinental pageant and the Malaysia-based Miss Tourism International contest.

Overseas and local bets also split runner-up honors. Toronto’s Samantha East was first runner-up, while Quezon City’s Jennielyn Natividad was second runner-up.

Banares, who passed the nursing board exams in February, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in an earlier interview that her experience in various pageants in the Bicol region helped to prep her for the big leagues.

Fellow Bicolana Dominique Lagrimas, from Camarines Sur, cracked the semifinals and took home the Miss Photogenic prize.

Local bets continued to make waves in the “Mutya” even if the pageant has opened its doors to overseas entrants of Filipino lineage. In the last decade, only three overseas bets have been proclaimed Mutya ng Pilipinas—Miriam Chui from the United States in 2002, Filipino-Italian Carmizienas Nicolosi in 2005, and Norway’s Kirby Ann Basken in 2006.

This year, the semifinals was dominated by local bets: Host province Aurora’s Athena Mae Imperial, Manila’s Mae Lanie Chan, Palawan’s Jo Ann Peria, Karen Nacario from Toledo, Cebu, Taytay’s May Ann Buenaventura, and Bulakenya Jenn-Roe Gubat. They were joined by Photographers’ Choice Rene McHugh from the US East Coast.

Texas-based Ana Baladad was proclaimed Mutya ng Pilipinas-Overseas Communities. She was chosen from among the eight overseas representatives who joined this year. Baladad was not in the semifinals.

Pangasinan’s Agnes Santiago, meanwhile, received the OPMB People’s Choice Award for garnering the most votes in an online poll conducted among members of the Internet pageant portal www.opmbworldwide.com.

Diane de Vera of Romblon was voted Miss Friendship by fellow candidates while Quezon City’s Katrina Lopez was proclaimed Miss Talent.

Past “Mutya” winners include Miss Asia Alice Crisostomo, Miss Asia-Pacific Bong Dimayacyac, Miss Model of the World Gemith Gemparo and Miss Asia-Pacific Michelle Aldana, movie and TV actresses Tetchie Agbayani, Aurora Sevilla, Sherilyn Reyes and Daisy Reyes, and the late Rio Diaz. Last year’s winners were Jonavie Quiray and Jam Libatog.

The 2009 Mutya ng Pilipinas coronation night will be telecast on TV-5 on Aug. 16 at 9 p.m. The Filipino Channel (TFC) will beam the program to other countries later. Inquirer, Manila, 11.08.09

MANILA - Celebrities and fashion designers poured out their grief, just moments after first-ever Binibining Pilipinas winner Maria Myrna Sese Panlilio died of gall bladder disease at the Makati Medical Center last night. Binibining Pilipinas-Universe and actress Maria Isabel Lopez, who had once knocked horns with Panlilio, feels sorry about her death. Lopez, speaking sadly, said she had already forgiven Panlilio for barring her from attending the Bb. Pilipinas coronation night at the Araneta Coliseum last May. Panlilio cited Lopez's sexy image during the 1980s. “I respected and understood what she had to do that time,” Lopez said. "I pray for her soul. I am sure she's happy now with the Lord." Lopez said she will pay her last respects to Panlilio's remains at the Sanctuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park. Panlilio was an officer of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., which former beauty titlist Stella Marquez-Araneta heads. She was also the Executive Director of the Nayong Pilipino. She developed a number of tourist attractions on the site and actively campaigned for the advancement of Philippine tourism. Panlilio, who married Dr. Ramon N. Borromeo, was also a socio-civic leader and TV co-host of beauty expert Ricky Reyes. When she represented the country at the 1964 Miss Universe, she relished opportunities to socialize. During the beauty pageant's socials events, she attended a Democratic Convention at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, California. Society writer Bob Zozobrado said that early last year, on Panlilio's 65th birthday, she hosted a soiree at the Philippine International Convention Center to help raise funds for cancer victims. This year, she held a simpler party, but her friends and colleagues in the tourism business took time out to donate to her cause just the same. The death of her daughter, fashion model Patricia Borromeo, in 2003 prompted Panlilio to form the Trisha P. Borromeo Legacy Association, which aims to support the University of the Philippines- Philippine General Hospital Pediatric Cancer Ward. Patricia, known to all show business people as actor Richard Gomez’s ex-sweetheart, was a very charming lady just like her mom. Goulle Gorospe, a noted fashion designer who used to dress up Bb. Binibining Pilipinas contestants, said Panlilio was a gracious woman. “Ang bait-bait niya. Siya ang epitome ng kagandahan at kasosyalan,” Gorospe said. The late beauty icon, according to Gorospe, was a noted member of high society. “The last time I saw her was during actress Liberty Ilagan’s birthday last week. She was so gorgeous. Para siyang hindi tumatanda. I told her she’s lucky to have been associated with both people from show biz and the elite. She just chuckled,” Gorospe reminisced. Gorospe said he felt sad when Panlilio’s name was dragged into the Maria Isabel Lopez controversy. “I think it wasn’t Myrna’s real sentiment. She was just following orders from above,” shared Gorospe.
