Spanking was the norm in raising kids where I grew up. I don't remember ever seeing a kid spanked in public, and if many children today acted up like you describe, stores wouldn't allow children in the store. People in different cultures these days raise kids with different methods. It's not a big deal, but there are adults, especially pro-spankers, who like to think it is. Mama is big on whuppins, telling us we are never too old for it. She was brought up that way by her pastor dad and rules the fatherless house my sister and I grew up in. It seems to me that most black mothers do spank and are not afraid to advertise it. My mother says she had to be tough with us, because we have to act BETTER than white kids --our lives depend on it!
