That made them memorable. Especially when she would say, I'm gonna blister your bare butt in front of God and everybody." But having my spankings witnessed was pretty bad in general, particularly as I got older. I guess seeing strangers watching and commenting about it was pretty bad for me. There was one time my parents had a cookout I was seven. I got mad because the grownups wouldn't let me play volleyball with them instead of playing with the other kids. I sat sulking instead of playing. There was a foul and the ball bounced over by me. One of the guests asked me to throw him the ball. Instead, I intentionally kicked it into another yard. Mom excused herself from the game and took me by the hand into the house. There were several people in the house, including my teacher who was friends with my mother and who was and still is one of my favorite teachers. Mom chewed me out good for behaving like a little brat, which I was, and then for the first time told me she was going to pull my pants down and spank me "in front of God and Everybody." Then she pulled my pants and underwear down to my ankles put me over her knee and gave me a long hard spanking. It was particularly embarrassing to be laying their getting my bare bottom spanked with other people standing and watching including my teacher. When mom let me up, I pulled up my pants and she made me sit at the table. She and my teacher who was pregnant with her first child talked about it after. She said she would probably discipline her children the same way. Ironically that same teacher would be working as a substitute when I was in fifth grade. I had developed a crush on her. I ended up getting in trouble in class and she kept me after. She gave me the choice of taking a spanking from her or going to the office where I would probably be paddled. I chose to let her spank me. She made me bend over with my hands on a bench, then without a word, pulled my pants and underwear down just below my butt, put her arm around my waist and spanked my bare bottom by hand. It was the first time a teacher had ever spanked me bare. Fortunately we were the only ones in the room. At that point, after she spanked me, she pulled my pants back up and I was crying like a baby, more from the embarrassment of being spanked by my favorite teacher, than from the pain. We sat and talked about it for a few minutes while I calmed down and then she hugged me. Then she gave me a note to take home to mom. That of course led to another spanking at home. So I guess, between the spanking mom gave me in front of her at seven, the spanking the teacher gave me at eleven resulting in a second spanking at home, I wouldn't say I particularly hated it, It was certainly the most memorable. That's why she always spanked our bare butts. It also served as a deterrent. Knowing she would not hesitate to spank us that way "in front of God and everybody", was not an empty threat. We knew it would happen, therefore we knew we were pushing the limits. She also believed that as long as we lived under her roof, we were subject to her method of discipline. I got my last spanking at fifteen and lived under that threat if you will until I moved out. I had moved out when I was twenty. Lived on my own for a while and moved back in, paying rent. I moved out a second time and back in again a year later and lived there till I got married at twenty-four. The times I had moved back home, I was paying rent and doing chores around the house to pay my way. I respected my parents enough to not push limits. It was there home and I was living there. So I was never threatened with a spanking or any other punishment. I was never told I was "too old to spank" but there was never a threat of it either. I was an adult and acted like one. The most common way my punishments were ‘increased’ in severity was for him to order me to take off my underwear as well. 2 other spankings stand out as worse. This was embarrassing and more painful but it was just my dad. On one occasion he spanked me, over panties, in front of a boy who was sleeping over. I would have traded that experience for a private bare bottom spanking in a heart beat. The worst spanking I ever experienced was when I was spanked bare bottom in front of 7 of my cousins (girls and boys) when I was 11 along with my cousins Noah and Keith (age 13 and 10). About two days in, after getting some backtalk from me, she announced I was getting a reminder of who was in charge and how to behave. She fetched mom's paddle from top the refrigerator and warmed my behind. The next day she told me she was not very impressed with the paddle. It was one of those old fli-back paddles with elastic and ball removed. Out of the goodness of her heart she had bought mom something she felt was more appropriate for a "sassy kid" my age. It was a hairbrush, and she put it on top of the refrigerator. I did not get spanked again that week. My sister and I have a very good relationship today. It was not that we had a bad relationship back then so much as we didn't have one at all, at least as sisters. She and my other sister (who is ten years older than me) were busy with teenage and young adult activities, and soon left the family home, while I was not much more than a toddler. There is no doubt that I deserved that spanking (as well as the followup smacks by mom). She was really not being overbearing, but was quite nice (I remember today how beaming happy she was standing up in the audience applauding my solo in an orchestra performance). But I was a thirteen year old --trying to get away with stuff, full of backtalk. This is not because they don't sting. On a bare bottom they sting like the Dickens! Rather they fail and break or otherwise become unsafe. Some moms on my block bought a second one and glued them together. This strengthening prevented them from breaking but also enhanced the sting or so my friends claimed!
