Mine get plenty of comfort with post-spanking hugging and reconciliation. It does not help relieve the sting. My own children do the same. As a mom Iam glad they do, it shows me that it hurts a lot and that was my intention, I can enjoy it. My daughter ones put cream on her spanked behind, I marched her back to the kitchen cleaned her behind from the cream and gave her a second spanking. She was not warned or told specifically not to put cream on her spanked behind. But she knew that it was forbidden to eas the spanking, we had the conversation about sitting on a pillow before. She tried to cover the fact she used the cream, but covering a smell is very hard, so she knew it wasn’t allouwed. The second spanking was not more then some slaps by hand. The truth about spanking is that it works, in part, because one can't make the sting go away immediately. Cold water, carbocaine and other local anesthetics, of course, would help but they aren't feasible for most kids. I doubt that the cold cream did much more than earn her slaps from mom and increase the smarting and tingling in her bottom. Apparently the extras conveyed the message that she is not to mess with mom's handiwork. Fair enough. I am glad that it was not a repeat visit from your hairbrush!
