OH MY GOD!

I don't even know what to say at this point. I'm speechless and believe me Sweetie, that is rare for me. It would have taken everything I have to keep my mouth shut and not go over there and get hold of that little heathen. If I had done something like that to my Momma when she was pregnant, not only would she have blistered my butt right then and there, but Daddy probably taken off his belt and whipped me till I couldn't sit for a week.

Sadly, now that kid knows he can push his Momma around and get his way, he's gonna think she will always give in to him. I see jail in his future.

100% agree with you Sonya! That kid needed to have his bare butt covered with red belt stripes and he WOULD have, had that been MY son!

I think we were ALL in complete SHOCK. I'm sure most of us assumed she would have spanked him right then and there herself, or maybe left the groceries there long enough to have taken him outside, or to the car, to wear his butt out. And trust me, if she decided to wear him out right then and there, I feel sure not a SINGLE person would have objected and tried to intervene, at ALL.

I'm sure something we all were thinking, as you said, was - "WHAT are you TEACHING your son?" Now he knows that if he wants something, all he has to do is punch his mom!

I've seen some other, similar instances in public like this, but this was by far the WORST!

I used to work in retail and I spent years seeing children at their absolute worst. Tantrums, running around like little animals, tearing stuff up, stealing, cussing and even hitting their parents. I guess, being a "product of my raising", I never let my kids act like that especially in public. Honestly, they were normally very well behaved in public and knew the consequences if they weren't. I didn't always behave in public when I was a kid and my bare butt certainly paid the price for it. I never spanked my kids bare in public like my mother would do me for acting like that, but they knew they would get it at home and generally when and if they started acting up all it took was, me asking them, "Do you want a spanking when we get home?" That was usually enough to "nip it in the bud." If one of my kids had acted like that one, they would have gotten a spanking as my mom used to say "in front of God and everybody." and let CPS be damned.

I agree, Gary.

As a kid my siblings and I all KNEW better than to "act a fool" in public! With my own kids - two sons - we could take them ANYWHERE and expect good behavior from them.

To be clear, no kid is perfect just as NO person at ALL is perfect, and there were a couple of times when I had to take my son outside a restaurant for a talk...and I honestly mean a TALK, not a euphemism for anything else.

I remember one time when my eldest was around 4 and was acting up in a restaurant while the younger was asleep in his stroller, and Kathleen told me, very angrily, "Just take him outside and wear his ass out!"

Well I did take him outside, but we had an actual talk. I calmly explained to him why he could be acting that way in public and it would not be tolerated. I told him we were going back inside and he's going to be on his best behavior - but if not - we WOULD be coming back outside and there wouldn't be any more talking. Fortunately he was smart enough to be reasoned with, and we never had to go back outside.

Spanking is not always necessary. I believe if you can reason with a child - within reason - there is no reason to spank them.
