On one of the private forums I continually reference, there was a high school girl named Kelli who played volleyball and basketball. Kelli shared some of her experiences with us, including two paddlings.
The first paddling - which as I recall was her first EVER - was given by her male coach in his office. The thing was, there was a new male coach/teacher who had just recently been hired, and since Kelli was scheduled for a paddling anyway, her coach decided to take advantage of the opportunity to teach the new guy the proper way to paddle.
As she described it, it was kind of like a very clinical demonstration, except that she was the focus of attention (I can just imagine the new guy actually taking copious notes…they probably looked like henscratch, haha!). Her coach gave her specific instructions beginning with “spread your feet slightly apart,” "bend over the desk," “reach your hands as far forward as you can,” “keep your eyes looking forward,” and "stick your butt out a little more."
He then gently placed the paddle across the lower part of her buttocks, demonstrating to the new guy, “THIS is where you want the paddle to strike.” She said it was embarrassing to say the least, but Kelli was a good girl who respected authority and took responsibility for her own actions...so she complied as instructed. And then she got 3 hard licks that caused her to yelp loudly.
I personally made the mistake of criticizing her coach for subjecting her to this use for a demonstration…like she was some kind of guinea pig. Apparently, that was the WRONG thing to say…I guess I misread her. She FIERCELY defended her coach, saying how MUCH she respected him and that she had MUCH rather school administrators know HOW to administer a paddling properly, rather than handing them a piece of wood and hoping for the best, that they don’t injure a student because they didn't know what they were doing. She felt she was contributing to a greater cause, in that regard.
I apologized to her.
