 Once a child reaches age 14 or so, I would not spank them against their will. Having said that, if they do something wrong they need to be punished. I would give them a choice, a spanking or something else. If the something else was very unpleasant there is a good chance they would take the spanking.

In my case, when I did something wrong as a teenager, I was given a choice. Sometimes 3 choices. I did not like being grounded and I did not like the paddle being used on me so the result could be a bare bottom spanking. Personally, I would rather be embarrassed then in terrible pain. In any case, the punishment would still be a good motivator.

When I get spanked by. My live in boyfriend future husband modesty is not a concern my parents did not spank so I was never convinced about modesty

It's a bit the opposite for me when it's consensual. Hubby spanked me over my clothes once, I was so offended. It was like he didn't want to see me naked.
