I don't think you can blame yourself for stopping and watching. It's not as if the door was closed and hearing the spanking you opened the door a crack and peeped in. Your brother-in-law presumably knew you were in the house and might see. Are there other occasions you were aware of Jan, or someone else in the family, getting the strap?
