We usually just laid on our stomachs in bed. Over the knee made it even more embarrassing, and like being taken back to little boy status, and just as painful anyway. It would be interesting to know if size matters when girls get punished. It seems the smaller the girl, the chances are greater for over the knee, however, if we take the movies of the day for examples, even full grown women got spanked that way. I heard the "sugar and spice" and "boys will be boys" many times. They could be interpreted as either gender expectations or an excuse for behavior. I think more than not where I lived, the sentiment was that girls were too delicate and sweet to be spanked, while boys were tougher and needed a stronger deterrent to the reckless behavior that came natural to us. It depended on the parents, of course, and some girls were not as lucky as others. I knew a few teen girls who got spanked at home, and maybe it was a coincidence that they were the spice and not so much sugar kind. My mother was not a big woman, but she was strong and when she pinned your arm in the small of your back and began spanking your but with either her hand or a hairbrush you could kick, buck and squirm all you could you were not going anywhere. Embarrassment was part of the punishment process. It started by being stripped naked for the punishment and having witnesses present to watch. I think that was far worse for the boys than the girls. We would get scared and our nipples would get hard, but the boys would end up pointing towards the ceiling before (and during the lecture phase) and initially when put over the lap and dangled between my mother’s legs. That issue was quickly resolved for them once the spanking began, but it redeveloped as they recovered and were standing against the wall. Clearly being spanked OTK was embarrassing because it was so childish. But the alternative was laying over the end of the couch with my mother holding your arms and my father smacking the sit spots and back of the thighs with his belt. An even worse affair. To add to everything was the age regression which was more prominent with the boys. Both of my brothers were big guys who played lots of sports. But it didn’t take long before they regressed to crying, screaming and kicking 5-year-olds begging Mommy that it hurt and to please stop or not spank so hard. I really don’t thing how old or big matters much when the rapid attack of the hairbrush is raining down spanks on your butt you become a frantic mess that can only focus on the pain in your bottom and nothing else matters. Spankings were the most humbling and embarrassing events of my adolescence, and my parents were pretty "normal" about how they punished us. We had to be naked below the waist, but it was usually in our rooms, or at least no one was invited to watch the spanking. If there were erections or other involuntary bodily responses, no one ever said anything about it, and in the drama of the moment, I would not be thinking about that anyway. Spankings were not sexualized in any way, so nothing about seeing boy or girl parts. The closest to that I can remember is sometimes seeing the evidence of a recent spanking on someone's bottom. Even in our lesser humiliating punishment scenes, I still hated the intense shame I felt. I don't know how it must have been for your brothers. To be completely stripped and spanked over-the-knee by "Mommy" in full view of everyone is total public emasculation. I think some people feel uncomfortable if it moves from a spanking to a beating. Sure, you can hurt anyone with a belt or a stick but it feels worse.
