One, I think it depends a lot on where you live. Here in the U.S. spanking still seems more prevalent in the South and thr Midwest, though I am sure it is still common in other areas, too. Second, I think it was more common a generation or two ago for parents to acknowledge they spanked. When I was growing up, past a certain age no one talked about getting spanked. It was not uncommon there, especially i more rural areas, to hear a parent threaten younger kids with a spanking. “Do you want me to bust your butt” was something I heard often. I have lived in the South for about a dozen years now, and while I don’t hear threats like that made, I have actually seen a few times moms giving a younger kid a couple of smacks on the butt in public. When I was younger my parents un-airconditioned church would have a longggggggggg Sunday service followed by a social, but first all the kids who couldn't behave through the service went down the basement for a spanking.
