Mary,

My boys are 8 and 11, I was just sharing on Crista's thread about this to Cordelia. My 11 year old will also sometimes try to play the tough guy when I am spanking him, he tries hard not to cry, grits his teeth and clench his bottom cheeks. But it also dosesn't last long because I start with my hand but quickly move to my trusty wood hairbrush on him, my youngest gets more hand spanking that brush at his age. I always spank his bare bottom with the back of a wooden hairbrush much longer than with my hand.

I am also a slow spanker anyway, I also as with Cordelia make him unclench his cheeks himself a big yes here to Cordelia “I felt I was winning a little victory over him, especially as the hairbrush paid his bottom another visit at the moment he did it.”

This is so me as Cordelia said “My whole vibe was "I have all evening if need be" and my boys never came off my lap until they are bawling like a toddler, even when spanking my 11 year old. There is tears and snot and they are reminded mommy is boss.
