That's an interesting question. I was always spanked over my knickers and Jack was always spanked bare, so I can't answer it from my own experience. In the days when I chatted to people on Yahoo, everyone I talked to seemed to agree that it hurts more on the bare bottom. And I am afraid that does matter - every spanking parent has to learn that a spanking that doesn't hurt enough is worse than useless.

I think that baring the bottom also has great psychological impact on the naughty boy, not least because it makes it clear that your parent wants what comes next to hurt. And if you are using an implement, such as my 'special' hairbrush, then it is safer if you can see what you are doing.

I used to chat to someone who had been (or claimed to have been - you never know online) a housemaster in a boys' prep school in the old days. The headmaster used to say that he had seen very few canings that he thought too severe over his long career, but everyone of them had been given over the seat of the boy's trousers. So when he got his own school he decreed that every caning had to be on the bare bottom (or "bare buttocks" as my online friend always said).
