This is a copy and paste of a similar description I made elsewhere on this forum.

My husband and I went to great lengths to be consistent in how we gave a spanking. Besides always following a clear pre-spanking lecture, being over the knees and bare, the actual spankings always started with four or five good firm spanks, given slowly (maybe five seconds apart). We then paused briefly to be sure we had a good hold. The spankings we have always finished with at least ten to twelve spanks given just as firmly as the start, but at a rapid pace.

It was also the same with hand (when ours were between four and nine) or during their "paddle years" (ages nine through tweleve). I personally think the second part, though over quickly, was very important to make the spanking memorable.
